| Peace and Social Justice Our mission is to deepen our understanding of the principles of Catholic social teaching and then, through word and action, to help integrate these principles more fully into the life of our parish community. If you are interested in attending a meeting, please join us at Saint Catherine's convent, 7:00 pm, on the third Monday of the month. For more information please contact the Peace and Social Justice Committee. "People say, 'What good can one person do? What is the sense of our small effort?' They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time. We can be responsible only for the one action of the present moment. But we can beg for an increase of love in our hearts that will vitalize and transform all our individual actions, and know that God will take them and multiply them, as Jesus multiplied the loaves and the fishes." The Advent Giving Tree: The Peace and Social Justice Committee would like to thank the Parishioners of St. Catherine's Parish for the amazing generosity shown during our first Giving Tree program. The Parish collected approximately 485 gifts in support of the following charities: 1. 73 gifts to families of St. Catherine's School 2. 69 gifts to families of Oldham School in Norwood 3. 22 gifts to families of Balch Elementary School in Norwood 4. 28 gift cards, totaling $535, for the Norwood Food Pantry 5. 43 gifts for victims of domestic violence at the New Hope Shelter in Attleboro 6. 250 gifts to families of Cathedral Grammar School in East Boston The following thank you letter was received from the Principal of Cathedral Grammar School. To: St. Catherine's Parishioners From: Sr. Dorothy, Principal Dear Friends, You have my deep gratitude for donating your Advent Giving Tree to the children and families of Cathedral Grammar School. I can't begin to tell you how much the mothers appreciate all the gifts. Many had already been calling me on the phone ask if I could provide any assistance for Christmas, and I was so happy to tell them of your generosity in providing for them. I realize with the difficult economic times we're experiencing, you had to dig deep to give unselfishly to strangers! I pray the Lord will bless each one who was so kind and ask that the Lord will speak these words to you individually, "I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me." May the New Year be filled with peace, love and joy for each of you. May you know God's abundant blessing in the New Year! Gratefully, Sister Dorothy Burns, C.S.J. Principal |
